A physical examination of Xiang Xiang, Giant Panda born on June 12, 2017, was conducted around 8:45 AM on August 25, 2018, when she was 439 days old. Her weight was 32.7 kg, an increase of 0.6 kg from 32.1 kg on August 15. Her body length was not measured.
Mother Shin Shin and Xiang Xiang spend their time in indoor rooms 2 and 3 during the hottest part of the day and at night, but on cooler days and in the cooler morning hours, they go out into the outdoor enclosure.
Xiang Xiang is interested in all sorts of things around her, plays around energetically, and is often seen playfully nuzzling her mother, Shin Shin. She also frequently uses the hammock that was installed in Indoor Room 2 on June 11th, to play and rest.
Xiang Xiang rests for about 13 to 15 hours a day, spending the rest of the time being active or nursing, but her rhythm is not consistent. She has often been seen nibbling on bamboo, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings that her mother is eating, and she eats sliced apples almost every day.
Also, around July 14th, it started eating bamboo leaves. It has become quite skilled at eating bamboo leaves, and just like the adults, it bundles several leaves together, holds them with its forelegs, and eats them little by little by biting them off with its teeth.
Furthermore, the process of replacing baby teeth with permanent teeth is still ongoing. On August 18th, the upper left canine tooth fell out, and on August 27th, the lower right canine tooth fell out, and the lower left canine tooth was observed to be growing in.
Shin Shin continues to nurse Xiang Xiang about 4-5 times a day, help with her bowel movements, and take care of her. Shin Shin also eats bamboo, bamboo grass, apples, carrots, panda dumplings, and pellets well.
