A physical examination of Xiang Xiang, Giant Panda born on June 12, 2017, was conducted around 8:50 AM on September 15, 2018, when she reached 460 years of age. Her weight was 34.3 kg, an increase of 0.9 kg from 33.4 kg on September 5. Her body length was not measured.
Mother Shin Shin and Xiang Xiang spend their time in indoor rooms 2 and 3 during the day and at night when temperatures are still high, but on cooler days and in the cool morning hours, they go out to the outdoor enclosure.
Xiang Xiang is interested in all sorts of things around her, plays around energetically, and is often seen playfully nuzzling her mother, Shin Shin. She also frequently uses the hammock that was installed in Indoor Room 2 on June 11th, to play and rest.
Xiang Xiang rests for about 13 to 15 hours a day, and spends the rest of the time being active or nursing, but her rhythm is not constant.
Up until now, it has often been seen chewing on the bamboo and dwarf bamboo that its mother is eating, and it eats sliced apples almost every day. Also, since around July 14th, it has started eating bamboo leaves, and recently it has been seen eating them little by little, biting off several leaves with its teeth, just like an adult.
Furthermore, the process of replacing baby teeth with permanent teeth is still ongoing. Of the four canine teeth, only the lower left canine has grown in as a permanent tooth; the other three are still baby teeth that have fallen out.
Shin Shin continues to nurse Xiang Xiang about 4-5 times a day, help with her bowel movements, and take care of her. Shin Shin also eats bamboo, bamboo grass, apples, carrots, panda dumplings, and pellets well.
