background
Sumatran Tiger is a rare subspecies of tiger, with an estimated population of only about 400 individuals living on the Indonesian island of Kawakawa.
Zoos across Japan are working together to facilitate breeding by transferring breeding-capable Sumatran Tiger between zoos to create pairs and promote reproduction.
Based on this initiative, Keahi arrived at Ueno Zoo on May 19, 2014. We attempted to breed him with the female turtles "Manis" and "Inda" that we were raising at the zoo, but no offspring were born. Therefore, Keahi was moved back to Yagiyama Zoological Park to promote the creation of a new pair.
