Regarding the temporary suspension of Polar Bear "Dea" (female) exhibit (※Exhibition resumed on December 19th)
└─2024/09/26 (12/19 updated)
Updated December 19, 2024:
Considering the possibility of pregnancy, we had been keeping "Dare" (female) in a non-public area, but based on behavioral observations and the results of regular blood tests, we have determined that the possibility of her being pregnant is low.

Therefore, although it is earlier than planned, we will reopen the exhibit for Dea on Thursday, December 19, 2024. We will continue to monitor her behavior and conduct blood tests to keep track of her condition.

The following are past announcements.

Ueno Zoo houses two Polar Bear, "Ikoro" (male) and "Dea" (female). As previously announced, as part of our breeding efforts, we performed artificial insemination on "Dea" on January 16, 2024.

Although there are currently no signs of pregnancy or childbirth, we have moved her to a non-public area as of Tuesday, September 24th, considering the possibility of pregnancy.

Going forward, we will monitor the situation and make changes to our care and management methods as needed. We will inform you again when we reopen the exhibit, but please understand that only "Ikoru" will be on display until the end of the year.
