Although Ueno Zoo is temporarily closed, Xiang Xiang's health is good. She is now behaving like an adult, resting for 10 to 12 hours a day and spending the rest of the time for foraging and other activities.

Although still smaller than an adult, it has grown into a fine specimen. It will turn 3 years old on the 12th of this month.

Xiang Xiang's diet mainly consists of bamboo and bamboo grass, in addition to apples, carrots, panda dumplings, and pellets, just like Ri Ri and Shin Shin. Since April 7th, she has been given about 2 kg of seasonal bamboo shoots per day. Her weight may fluctuate depending on the amount she eats and the timing of her bowel movements, but her nutrition is carefully managed.

From April 6th, except on days with high temperatures, they will be out in outdoor enclosure A, which has a tower, during the daytime. In addition to eating bamboo, they can be seen bathing and resting on top of the tower.

Furthermore, we are continuing Xiang Xiang's Eurasian Moorhen training, which we started on February 4, 2019 (training to encourage animals to behave spontaneously, with the aim of ensuring the healthy upbringing of animals and the safe working conditions of humans).

On June 5, 2020 (1,089 days old), the weight was measured at 81.4 kg (an increase of 1.2 kg from the 80.2 kg measured on May 5).

Li Li and Xin Xin are in good health. We are continuing to monitor them carefully, as we have been in regular contact with experts in China.

Please note that, for the sake of the animals' health management, we may change their rooms depending on the individual animal's condition.

*Announcements will be made on the website twice a month, around 3 PM on the day following a park closure.
　The scheduled dates for June 2020 are the 9th (Tue) and the 23rd (Tue), and for July 2020, they are the 14th (Tue) and the 28th (Tue).
