We began weaning Hikari (female), Giraffe born in February 2020, in mid-May.

Weaning doesn't mean giving them solid food like human babies. We gradually reduce the amount of milk they eat and increase the amount of hay and twigs and leaves they have. They're still eating less than 1 kg of food. We hope they'll eat lots of hay and twigs and leaves from now on and grow up strong.

Currently, Hikari weighs 140 kg and is over 2 meters tall. She has started going out into the enclosure with her father, Hinata, and is growing well. When you visit the zoo, please be sure to come and see Hikari.
