Added on December 15, 2020: The name of Asian Elephant elephant calf has been decided. Please see this page for details. Ueno Zoo welcomed its first ever Asian Elephant calf (male) on October 31, 2020 (Announcement of birth and current status). Now just under a month old, the calf is growing well, thanks to the devoted care of its mother, Uthai.
We are now holding a name vote for our child. Please vote for the name you think is most appropriate from the three candidates! Also, since our child is growing well and the mother-child relationship is going smoothly, we are now making this public.

1. About the name vote
Voting period: Thursday, November 26, 2020, 2:00 p.m. – Sunday, December 13, 2020, noon
Eligibility to vote Anyone can vote.
Name candidates ① Tawan (Thai for sun, sun, or sun disc) ② Arun (Thai for dawn, daybreak, or sunrise) ③ Assadong (Thai for sunset/evening glow) *We received cooperation from the Royal Thai Embassy in selecting the name candidates.
Selection method The name with the most votes will be chosen.
How to vote Voting will be accepted in the following two ways:
(1) Voting via the Internet For inquiries, please contact Ueno Zoo Education and Outreach Section at 03-3828-5171 (main number). *Reception hours are 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
*You will be redirected to an external website (kintoneapp.com). kintoneapp.com is a website managed and operated by Toyokumo Co., Ltd.
(2) Voting within the park Posters will be displayed near the Asian Elephant enclosure in the East East Garden. Please scan the QR code on the poster to access the voting form on the website mentioned above and cast your vote. Additionally, those who do not have internet access can cast their vote using the ballot papers provided in the ballot box at East Garden Gneral Information Center.
Precautions
Each person may only vote once. Please refrain from submitting multiple votes.
You can only vote for one name.
Please note that we do not accept votes by telephone.

The chosen name will be announced on Tuesday, December 15th. It will be posted on Ueno Zoo official website and official Twitter Ueno Zoo, as well as displayed in the Asian Elephant enclosure.
All rights, including copyright, to the chosen name belong to Tokyo Zoological Park Society.
There are no plans for a naming ceremony. Also, we will not be giving out any commemorative gifts or presents to those who voted for the chosen name. Thank you for your understanding.
2. Regarding disclosure
Starting December 1st, 2020 (Tuesday), both Asian Elephant mother and calf will be open to the public.
