Two Lidth's Jay Jays, kept at Ueno Zoo, were transferred to Hirakawa Zoological Park in Kagoshima Prefecture on November 22, 2020.

Lidth's Jay is a species endemic to Japan, inhabiting islands such as Amami Oshima, and is characterized by its vibrant blue feathers. Of the two birds that were moved, the male was bred at Ueno Zoo, and the female was rescued on Amami Oshima in March 2019.

Hirakawa Zoological Park will be undertaking breeding efforts with two birds. We hope they will thrive in their new environment and that this will contribute to the conservation of endangered species.
