The latest news on Giant Panda Shin Shin and her offspring [13]
└─ 2021/08/17
As previously announced, Giant Panda Shin Shin gave birth to two cubs on June 23, 2021. Details regarding Shin Shin and her offspring are as follows:

Shinshin's current situation

Shin Shin is currently living in a private room that is not open to the public. There are no particular health problems.

They are mainly fed bamboo and dwarf bamboo such as Moso bamboo, Shino bamboo, and Madake bamboo, and they also readily eat carrots, panda dumplings, and apples as supplementary foods.

The children were switched out sometime around 8:00 AM on August 15th, and the caregiver seems calm and is taking care of the children.

Until now, Shinshin had been raising her young in the birthing room, but since Take's feeding needs have increased and the birthing room alone has become too small, she began using the private room next to the birthing room during the daytime starting August 16th.

Currently, the cub (#1, male) is spending time with Shinshin, and the cub (#2, female) is in an incubator.

Since Shin Shin is raising her pups in the birthing room, we are not weighing her.

Recent updates on children

Both dogs are in good health and their weight is increasing steadily.

While Shin Shin is taking care of one calf, the other is being cared for in an incubator. The calf being held by its mother is drinking breast milk from her udder, while the calf in the incubator is being fed formula.

Both pups' eyes are gradually opening wider, but they don't seem to be reacting to anything in front of them, so it appears they still can't see clearly.

The babies that Shinshin is taking care of have reddish fur, especially around their mouths and genitals, but the babies being cared for in incubators do not show such changes, suggesting that this is because Shinshin is licking and taking good care of them.

*The baby that was taken out on June 23rd after birth and placed in an incubator is referred to as "Baby (#1, male)," and the baby that Shin Shin was holding after birth is referred to as "Baby (#2, female)."
*The interval between changes was initially about 5 days, depending on the child's condition, but as the child has grown older, the interval has been extended to about 10 days.
*We are accepting name suggestions for the baby until August 20th. For more information, please see below. This page Please take a look.

Additionally, to allow Shin Shin to focus on raising her cubs, the "Panda Forest" exhibit West Garden has been closed since June 23rd. Consequently, the male panda, Ri Ri, will also be unavailable for viewing for a while. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our visitors, and we appreciate your understanding and patience.
