Western Lowland Gorilla exhibit was closed on September 17th (exhibition resumed on September 18th).
└─ 2025/09/08 (Updated 09/18)
As announced on July 10, 2025, Toto, Western Lowland Gorilla at Ueno Ueno Zoo, had been experiencing abnormal genital bleeding for some time.

After receiving examinations from obstetricians and gynecologists and conducting thorough reviews, it has been decided that treatment to stop the bleeding will be performed under anesthesia on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

On the day of treatment, it will be difficult to isolate just one gorilla, so the exhibition of all gorillas will be suspended. Depending on Toto's condition, the exhibition of Western Lowland Gorilla from Thursday, September 18th onwards may also be suspended.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we appreciate your understanding.
