We would like to inform you of the following regarding Giant Panda "Shin Shin" and her two cubs "Xiao Xiao" and "Lei Lei," and "Li Li" and "Xiang Xiang," who were born on June 23, 2021.

Lili's current situation

Li Li's health is good.

Their diet mainly consists of bamboo and dwarf bamboo species such as Moso bamboo, Shino bamboo, and Madake bamboo, along with panda dumplings, carrots, and apples as needed. Due to the continued high temperatures during the day, they are kept in an air-conditioned room.

As of July 25, 2022, Leelee's weight was measured at 134.4 kg.

Xiang Xiang's current status

Xiang Xiang had been staying in West Garden" Panda Forest" area of East Garden panda enclosure, but she returned to East Garden panda enclosure on July 11th. Both moves were carried out for short periods during times when the temperature had not risen too much, and were completed without any problems.

animal keeper have been carefully monitoring Xiang Xiang's condition and managing her care, but due to the move between animal enclosures and the unfamiliar lifestyle in West Garden 's "Panda Forest," she was restless upon returning to East Garden, and it has taken time for her to regain her pre-move routine, such as eating for shorter periods.

However, it is gradually returning to its previous lifestyle, and its food intake is now almost the same as usual. Its weight has decreased slightly due to the shorter feeding time, but it remains within a range that does not pose a health problem. We ask for your understanding as we will need a little more time before the exhibit can be reopened.

Their diet mainly consists of bamboo and dwarf bamboo species such as Moso bamboo, Shino bamboo, and Madake bamboo, along with panda dumplings, pellets (solid feed), carrots, and apples as needed. Due to the continued high temperatures during the day, they are kept indoors in an air-conditioned environment.

As of July 25, 2022, Xiang Xiang's weight was measured at 95.8 kg.

Shinshin's current situation

There are no health problems with Shinshin.

Her diet mainly consists of bamboo and dwarf bamboo species such as Moso bamboo, Shino bamboo, and Madake bamboo, and she also readily eats panda dumplings, carrots, and apples as supplements. The amount of food given is adjusted as needed according to Shin Shin's eating habits, weight changes, and nursing of her cubs.

As of July 26, 2022, Shinshin's weight was measured at 130.2 kg.

At night, Shinshin is allowed to freely move between the indoor exhibit and her sleeping area along with Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei. During the day, due to the continued high temperatures, she is kept in an air-conditioned room. She continues to be seen playing with Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei, paying attention to them, and responding to their nursing.

Updates on Xiaoxiao and Leilei

Both puppies are in good health. Although there may be some difference in their weight, both are gaining weight steadily.

At night, as before, they play with Shinshin, frolic together, and have been seen nibbling on bamboo, although they have not yet been confirmed to be eating bamboo. To get them used to eating solid food, they have been given about 10g of apple per day since June 25th, and both have been seen eating it slowly.

The transition from baby teeth to permanent teeth is progressing smoothly, and both pups have begun to grow their permanent molars (premolars).

The timing and frequency vary from day to day, but the two cubs are typically breastfed 1 to 4 times a day. In addition to breast milk, they are also continuously given formula.

When startled by noises or other stimuli, pandas are often seen quickly climbing trees or other structures and remaining still. This behavior is thought to be a way to protect themselves from predators and is frequently observed in baby pandas.

We've placed a mark on Xiao Xiao's back to allow us to review video footage of her nighttime activities and to clearly identify her in surveillance camera footage. Neither mother nor offspring seem to mind the mark.
