We would like to announce the following about the two Giant Panda Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei, who were born at Ueno Zoo on June 23, 2021.
Xiao Xiao's latest news
Xiao Xiao's health is good, but since mid-October, we have noticed that the fur on her hind legs has been gradually getting shorter. No abnormalities have been observed on her skin, so we are considering the possibility of chafing or partial shedding, but we will continue to carefully monitor the situation.
We adjust the enclosure location according to the animals' condition and the weather, but since it is a comfortable season for pandas, we generally allow them free movement between indoor and outdoor areas. There are no particular abnormalities in their feeding or behavior, and they are in good condition.
They are fed mainly bamboo such as moso bamboo, shinotake bamboo, and Madake bamboo, with side dishes such as panda dumplings, carrots, and apples given as needed.
Xiao Xiao has been undergoing Eurasian Moorhen training (*) since July 16, 2023. Through repeated training, it will become possible to safely manage the panda's health by touching its body with minimal stress. Training was temporarily suspended when Ri Ri and Shin Shin went into quarantine, but it resumed on October 25, 2024, after their return to China. Currently, training items such as mouth opening, blood sampling, and blood pressure measurement that have been carried out so far are being continued to support her health management.

Rei-Rei's latest news
Ray Ray is in good health.
We adjust the enclosure location according to the animals' condition and the weather, but since it is a comfortable season for pandas, we generally allow them to move freely between indoors and outdoors. There are no particular abnormalities in their feeding or behavior, and they are in good condition, but they tend to eat more bamboo indoors than outdoors. Therefore, we mainly provide bamboo indoors, and we also try to prevent them from becoming sedentary by placing highly palatable supplementary foods such as panda dumplings and apples in high places such as trees or in various locations.
They are fed mainly bamboo such as moso bamboo, shinotake bamboo, and Madake bamboo, with side dishes such as panda dumplings, carrots, and apples given as needed.
Lei Lei has been undergoing Eurasian Moorhen training since July 21, 2023. Like Xiao Xiao, her training was temporarily suspended when Li Li and Xin Xin began their quarantine, but it resumed on October 26, 2024. Currently, we are continuing the training items that we have been doing so far, such as mouse opening, blood sampling, and blood pressure measurement, and are focusing on her health management.
