ジャイアントパンダの近況[125]
 └─2025/06/26
We would like to announce the following about the two Giant Panda Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei, who were born at Ueno Zoo on June 23, 2021.

Xiao Xiao's latest news

Xiaoxiao's health is good.

Due to the continued high temperatures, we are mainly keeping them indoors in an air-conditioned environment. There are no particular abnormalities in their feeding or behavior, and they are doing well. They are also growing steadily, sometimes exceeding 100 kg in weight.

We are mainly feeding them bamboo such as Moso bamboo, Shino bamboo, and Madake bamboo, and supplementing them with panda dumplings, carrots, and apples as needed. We are also continuing to give them bamboo shoots, which they eat well. In addition, because of the continued high temperatures, we gave them ice made from juice on June 23rd. They responded well, and we even saw them eating watermelon.

Xiao Xiao has been undergoing Eurasian Moorhen training (*) since July 16, 2023. Through repeated training, it will become possible to safely manage the health of pandas by touching them with minimal stress. Training was temporarily suspended when Ri Ri and Shin Shin went into quarantine, but resumed on October 25, 2024, after their return to China. Currently, as with last month, training is underway to keep the pandas' mouths open.

Rei-Rei's latest news

Ray Ray is in good health.

Due to the continued high temperatures, we are mainly keeping them indoors in an air-conditioned environment. There are no particular abnormalities in their feeding or behavior, and they are doing well. Like Xiaoxiao, they are growing steadily.

We primarily feed them bamboo such as Moso bamboo, Shino bamboo, and Madake bamboo, and supplement their diet with panda dumplings, carrots, and apples as needed. We have continued to feed them bamboo shoots since April 12th, and they eat them well. Also, because of the continued high temperatures, we gave them ice made from juice on June 23rd. They responded well, not only licking it but also rubbing it on their bodies.

Lei Lei has been undergoing Eurasian Moorhen training since July 21, 2023. Like Xiaoxiao, her training was temporarily suspended when Li Li and Xin Xin began their quarantine, but it resumed on October 26, 2024. Currently, she is continuing the training from last month to be able to maintain a supine position.
