Haruna, a female Water Buffalo buffalo, has died.
└─2015/12/18

On December 17, 2015, Haruna, a female Water Buffalo kept at Tama Zoo, passed away at the age of 25. The cause of death was old age, and with this, Tama Zoo no longer has Water Buffalo.

Haruna Water Buffalo buffalo

Haruna was born on July 18, 1990, at Ehime Prefectural Tobe Zoo and moved to Tama Zoo on loan in September 1996. Two years ago, in 2013, the male zookeeper Akagi died, and Haruna was kept alone. However, her legs began to weaken around the fall of 2015, and since October, she has been receiving treatment indoors.

Haruna, who was loved by many for her relaxed presence in the pool, was a popular Water Buffalo. We are deeply grateful for the many kind words and support we received from our customers who were concerned about her during her treatment. Thank you very much.
