The baby Chimpanzee "Plum" will be on public display from October 10th!
└─2019/10/08

Tama Zoo announced that Chimpanzee "Peach" gave birth on August 25, 2019. The father is "Max." The newborn is a female and has been named "Plum." Like her mother Peach, her name was chosen from a fruit.

Peach will be on public display from Thursday, October 10th, 2019. The viewing times are from approximately 10:00 AM to 3:45 PM. She will be in the large Chimpanzee enclosure.

Peach, a first-time mother, was initially clumsy at holding her baby and seemed troubled when the baby cried, but now she has improved at breastfeeding and holds her baby tightly to her chest when the baby cries.

Other Chimpanzee occasionally approach to check on the baby, and the young females, in particular, seem very curious.

  • Please note that viewing may not be possible depending on the weather or the animals' health. Also, viewing may be suspended without prior notice.
  • For the time being, we will be exhibiting "Peach and her child" and "Momoko and her child" on alternating basis, but there may be times when neither family is on display. We appreciate your understanding.
  • We will continue to observe the behavior of other individuals and carefully prepare to integrate the parent and offspring into the group.
