Giraffe was born! Its mother is "Ami".
└─ 2020/10/14

A Giraffe calf was born at Tama Zoo on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. His name is "Jojo".

The mother is "Ami" (born March 4, 2006 at Ishikawa Zoo, arrived at Tama Zoological Park on June 13, 2007), and the father is "Jill" (born May 22, 2013 at Saitama Children's Zoo, arrived at Tama Zoological Park on June 29, 2015). This is the 191st litter born at Tama Zoo.

The baby was born on the morning of October 13th. The baby's body was still wet, and it was not yet able to stand. Reviewing the nighttime observation video, we determined that the birth occurred around 7:38 AM. Shortly afterward, the baby was able to stand and walk, and we confirmed that it was nursing.

The baby's head is about 190cm tall, and he has a sturdy build. This is Ami's third pregnancy, and just like last time, her milk supply is good, and she seems calm and composed while taking care of the baby.

Currently, we are letting them out into a small enclosure during the day. Once they have become accustomed to the environment, we plan to return the mother and calf to the group.
