We've found out its gender and decided on a name. It's a female and her name is "Coco".
For updates on our current situation, please see this article.

A Japanese Serow serow was born at Inokashira Park Zoo on April 20, 2023. Its sex is still unknown. This marks the second consecutive year of breeding.

The mother is a female named "Suzuna." Suzuna arrived at Inokashira Park Zoo on November 8, 2021. After she had adjusted to her new environment, she was placed with a male named "Mumu" for breeding purposes. Mating was confirmed at the end of 2021, and she gave birth on July 6.

Following this, mating was confirmed again on September 20, 2022, and on the evening of April 20, 2023, zookeepers confirmed that she had given birth in the exercise area. The sex of the calf is unknown. This was Suzuna's second birth. Suzuna is very calm, staying close to her baby, nursing and taking care of it.

Suzuna often takes care of the pups in an area close to visitors, so the park has installed barriers along the viewing paths to maintain social distancing. You may not always be able to see the pups, but for the time being, please watch over them quietly and respectfully from a distance.

Also, to ensure that Suzuna can raise her cubs in peace, the male Mumu and Toto, a male born last year, are mainly being kept in the back area, but we are gradually introducing them to the mother and cubs as we monitor their behavior. Please note that the individuals out in the exercise area may vary from day to day.

With this latest birth, Japanese Serow at Inokashira Park Zoo has reached four (two males, one female, and one of unknown gender). According to data from Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums of Zoos and Aquariums, as of December 31, 2022, there were 44 serows (33 males and 21 females) in 19 facilities across Japan.
