Alice, a female Corriedale sheep kept at Inokashira Park Zoo passed away on May 7, 2025. She was born in December 2009 and was 15 years old.

Alice came to the children's zoo at Ueno Zoo Zoo in December 2011, along with her sister Belle, from Saitama Children's Zoo and Nature Park. At that time, the children's zoo had a "Nakayoshi Picnic Area" where sheep, Goat, and chickens roamed freely, and visitors could enter and interact with the animals directly. The two animals interacted with visitors there and also participated in educational programs for preschoolers and elementary school children, teaching them about the role of "livestock" and the warmth of life.

​Alice and Belle came to Inokashira Park Zoo in July 2018 as part of the renovation of the children's zoo. When they arrived at Inokashira, both were already elderly, but they had become accustomed to life at the zoo and had been living peacefully in recent years. As they got older, it became more difficult for them to survive the cold winters and hot summers, but with careful management of their health and the warm support of visitors, they were able to overcome each challenge one by one. Alice, who had fought so hard, passed away on May 7, 2025. The cause of death was heart failure.

For the 13 years since arriving at Ueno Zoo, Alice and Belle have lived together. Belle, who suddenly lost Alice, initially cried as if searching for her, but she has now calmed down and is living as before. As Belle is also elderly, we will take care to manage her health so that she can continue to live a healthy and peaceful life.
