The project "Bloom the Future of Pandas - Thank You Xiang Xiang," which expresses the hope that Xiang Xiang, who was raised with love from everyone, will become a bright light for the future of pandas, began on Panda Day, October 28th.
As the fourth installment of this project, we will release a video titled "The Life of Giant Panda- Overcoming Many Difficulties," which traces the life of a panda while looking back on Xiang Xiang's growth.

The life of Giant Panda—overcoming numerous difficulties
The life of Giant Panda is a continuous series of various difficulties. Let's look back at Xiang Xiang's growth and explore the life of a panda.
The beginning of life Giant Panda, which live alone, need to find a mate within the few days when the female's chances of becoming pregnant are highest.
birth Immediately after birth, they are about the size of an adult's palm, so there is a risk of them being crushed by their mother.
growth When they're small, they're full of dangers. They rest in trees to avoid enemies. They live with their mother until they are about 18 months old... Giant Panda are solitary animals. They learn to live independently because if they don't become independent, they will fight even with their offspring.
When I grew up Even after successfully becoming independent, there are still many difficulties. To obtain sufficient nutrition, they need a large amount of bamboo. However, in the wild, climate change and development are making it difficult to secure food. Giant Panda are also exposed to many other dangers, including poaching and infectious diseases transmitted by humans and animals. Therefore, their numbers are decreasing in the wild. Conservation and research efforts to protect wild Giant Panda are being carried out in zoos around the world. One example is Xiang Xiang, born at Ueno Zoo, who will be sent to China to become the next generation of cubs. By learning about the situation of wild pandas and reflecting on your own lifestyle, you too can help protect wild Giant Panda. Why did Xiang Xiang go to China?
To maintain genetic diversity in Giant Panda, all captive individuals are registered in pedigrees, and breeding partners are selected using computer analysis. However, since Xiang Xiang herself has preferences, ideally, to ensure natural breeding, it would be best to have multiple potential partners available so she can choose a compatible match. Therefore, it has been decided that pandas born in zoos, including Xiang Xiang, will be returned to China, where there are many more pandas. In China, efforts have begun to reintroduce pandas bred in captivity back into the wild. Our main goal is to protect wild pandas from the threat of extinction and ensure they are passed on to future generations.
