Ueno Zoo will be holding an event to report on the healthy growth of Xiang Xiang, Giant Panda born on June 12, 2017, as she turns four years old.

This event will be streamed entirely on Ueno Zoo Zoo website. We will also announce it on the official Ueno Zoo Twitter account, so you can enjoy it from the comfort of your home. We encourage you to participate!

Giant Panda, an endangered species, is estimated to have a wild population of only about 1,800 individuals, and breeding efforts are underway worldwide. Xiang Xiang, born at our zoo, is expected to play a vital role as one of the next generation of pandas. As part of the "Bloom the Future of Pandas - Thank You Xiang Xiang" project, which began on October 28, 2020, "Panda Day," one of the events was "Panda Action" (*). In this event, we aimed to raise awareness that Giant Panda are rare animals and introduced six examples of what we can do to protect pandas, which we then asked everyone to declare on Twitter. This time, we've turned the declarations introduced in "Panda Action" into a GIF animation. The declaration displayed when you pause the GIF animation is the Panda Action you should keep in mind that day. You'll have to wait and see which of the six actions we've given as examples you get. Declare your action on Twitter with the hashtag "#Today'sPandaAction" and put it into action.

How to participate
① Every day from June 11th to 17th at 12:00 PM, Ueno Zoo Twitter account will tweet a GIF animation.
(I will tweet the same thing each day)
② Click on the GIF animation, and the declaration written on the image that freezes it will be the panda action you should focus on that day.

③ Add the hashtag "#Today'sPandaAction" to the written declaration and announce it on your own Twitter account.
④ Throughout that day, try to consciously act according to the panda action you declared in your tweet!

3. Comparing the growth of Xiang Xiang and Riki

This video compares the growth of Giant Panda "Xiang Xiang" with that of Western Gorilla "Riki," who was born in the same year as Xiang Xiang (2017).
The way animals are born and raised varies from species to species in order to survive in the harsh natural environment. By watching Xiang Xiang and Riki, who are the same age, grow up in sequence, you can learn about animal diversity and the characteristics of Giant Panda from the perspective of cub development.
We will also compare the growth of Arun, Asian Elephant born in 2020, using "a certain object." Please look forward to its release.
