To celebrate its 140th anniversary, Ueno Zoo will be implementing a variety of projects over the next year, centered around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were created to address various challenges facing the world.

In 2022, with the opening of the new Main Gate, we will be displaying carp streamers in front of Main Gate. As part of this, we will conduct a survey on the theme of SDGs, and based on the results, we will create and fly an original carp streamer. The survey will be conducted on Ueno Zoo 's Instagram account.

The SDGs have 17 goals. Several of these goals are particularly relevant to zoos, but we have selected the following four for this event. Please vote for the goal that you would like to implement most. We will create an original carp streamer by coloring a white carp streamer according to the number of votes received.

Please note that the voting period is only 24 hours due to Instagram's system.


Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production (Color: Dark Mustard)

Choose products made with environmental considerations in mind, using certification marks as a guide.

Goal 14: Protect the oceans, seas and marine resources (Color: Blue)

Goal 15: Protect life on land (Color: Lime Green)

Learn about biodiversity at zoos and museums.
Learn about endangered animals and the reasons why.

Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (Color: Royal Blue)

・Think about a social system that allows everyone to live in peace and security.
Accept the differences between yourself and those close to you, and respect each other.

There are many other things we can do. The SDGs goals are interconnected and all work together to make them a reality. Let's use this survey as an opportunity to think about what we can do in our daily lives!

We'll be using the quiz feature on our 140th anniversary special Instagram account, @ueno_zoo_140th, for our Stories. The carp streamers, colored based on your votes, will fly in the sky! Please participate!
