will extend its opening hours by three hours, staying open until 8 PM."The Zoo on a Midsummer Night"We will be holding an event where you can enjoy the zoo in a unique nighttime atmosphere, such as observing the little-known nocturnal behaviors of animals that you can't see during the day, and relaxing in the cool evening air amidst the rich natural surroundings of the park.
In addition, we will be holding special events to coincide with "World Elephant Day" (August 12th), as well as special talks about "timely animal information" to be enjoyed under the night sky. The annual beer garden at Shinobazu Pond Terrace will also be open. Please come and visit us.
1. basic information
(1) Days and hours when opening hours will be extended
Open until 8 PM from Wednesday, August 9th to Wednesday, August 16th, 2017 (last entry at 7 PM).
*The park will open at 9:30 AM as usual. There are no closing days during this period.
(2) Information on enrollment and withdrawalEntry to East Garden (Main Gate), West Garden (Benten Gate), and Ikenohata Gate is permitted from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM.
You can leave the park by 8 PM, and you can exit through any gate.

*What is "World Elephant Day"?
World Elephant Day was established on August 12, 2012, to raise awareness worldwide about the protection of elephants, which are endangered by poaching and habitat destruction.
Currently, related events are held on August 12th, mainly at zoos in Europe and North America, and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) are also working to raise awareness of World Elephant Day through public relations activities.

August 10th (Thursday) "Pandas vs. the Animals of East Garden ~UZE148 (UenoZooEast148) General Election: A Serious Battle for the Center Position~"Giant Panda have been the talk of the town lately. To draw attention to the animals that tend to be overshadowed by them, each animal keeper will give a serious presentation introducing their assigned animal, with the goal of "defeating the pandas."
Will a new animal be born that's even more popular than a panda? Stay tuned!
August 11th (Friday, National Holiday) "animal keeper 's West Garden Ultra Quiz!"This special event features quizzes created by animal keeper of West Garden. The quizzes will cover a variety of topics, including the animals' lives, food, and equipment.
You can learn more about animals while having fun! Now, how many questions can you answer correctly?!
August 12th (Saturday) "8.12 World Elephant Day Special Dialogue: Considering the Relationship Between Humans and Elephants"August 12th is "World Elephant Day," a day to call for elephant conservation around the world. Therefore, we will be inviting a guest from WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Japan to have a discussion with our Asian Elephant caretaker.
Two people working in different fields—a conservation organization and a zoo—will discuss the relationship between humans and elephants in detail.
August 13th (Sunday) "Professional: The Way of the Zoo"The final day will feature professionals who play an active role in various aspects of the zoo. The staff will come from three departments: the Children's Zoo, the Animal Hospital, and the Animal Care and Coordination Department.
What are the daily efforts and dedication of zoo professionals? Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear their insights!
(4) An evening of musicEnjoy a live music performance while relaxing in the cool evening breeze. Enjoy cool music in a pleasant environment with refreshing breezes blowing across the water.

(5) National Geographic Nighttime Animal TheaterAn outdoor screening of documentaries from the National Geographic Channel, a channel specializing in intellectually stimulating documentary programs.

(6) Tokyo Parks Navi Midsummer Night Stamp RallyThis is a special stamp rally using the
Tokyo Metropolitan Parks Navi app to explore the "highlights" of the zoo on a midsummer night.
There are two courses: East Garden Course (5 spots) and West Garden Course (5 spots). The first 200 people each day to complete either course will receive a wonderful prize.

(7) Ice pillar displayFor an extra touch of coolness during your evening stroll at Shinobazu Pond, we'll be displaying illuminated ice sculptures featuring animal photographs.
Installation dates and times: August 9th (Wed) - 16th (Wed), from 5 PM until closing time.
Installation location: West Garden Shinobazu Pond Terrace
◎Requests and Precautions for Visitors
(1) Animal exhibits and events may be canceled or changed depending on the animals' condition, weather, etc.
(2) Some areas will be closed to visitors after the animals' exhibit hours have ended.
(3) Please refrain from using flash photography on animals.
(4) Do not point flashlights or other lights at animals; use them only to illuminate the ground around your feet.
(5) Insecticides cannot be used in the park, so there are many mosquitoes. Please use insect repellent if needed.
(6) There is no parking available at Ueno Zoo. We recommend using public transportation.
