will extend its opening hours by three hours, staying open until 8 PM during the Obon period in August and on Saturdays and Sundays thereafter."Summer Night @ Tama Zoo 2017 - A Zoo Where Even Devils Awaken at Night"We will be holding an event.
During the evening hours, we will be hosting various special programs that showcase the unique charm of the exhibited animals and the zoo at night, such as a "Nighttime Animal keeper talk Tour" where you can observe the animals as darkness falls, a "Bat Station Guide" where you can observe bats within the park, and "Nighttime Keeper's Talks" by zookeepers on the nocturnal behavior of the animals.
We also have many fun and educational programs planned, including special events to coincide with "World Elephant Day" (August 12th) and a special talk about Tasmanian Devil. Please enjoy a meal at our special beer garden as well.

The park is open until 8 PM (last entry at 7 PM).
*The park will open at the usual time of 9:30 in the morning. Also, the park will be open on Wednesday, the 16th.

(4) Operation of food and beverage establishments and gift shopsWe will extend the operating hours of our restaurants and gift shops. We will also be opening a temporary beer garden.
Enjoy a meal and drinks while exploring the park on a summer evening.

① Nighttime keeper talkThe zookeepers will give keeper talk focusing on the behavior and ecology of animals from dusk to noon. You might hear some fascinating facts about nocturnal animals that only the zookeepers know.
Further details will be provided in the event flyer distributed on the day of the event.

② Nighttime animal observation tourThis special tour focuses on animals native to Japan, primarily nocturnal animals that are active at night, and allows participants to observe them with the help of zookeepers.
Would you like to join us in observing the nocturnal behavior of animals, something that's usually difficult to see?

③ Nighttime Animal Quiz RallyThis is a quiz rally for children themed around nocturnal animals. Participants observe five different animals, answer quizzes, and collect stamps to reveal the answers.
Let's take a stroll through the park and observe the animals that come alive at night.
Dates: August 14th (Mon) - 16th (Wed), 19th (Sat), 20th (Sun), 26th (Sat), 27th (Sun)

④ Nighttime Zoo Mystery Tourdirector and the head of the animal care and exhibition department will introduce the charms of the zoo at night from their respective perspectives. You'll have to participate to find out what kind of tour it will be!

⑤ Nighttime animal video screeningThis year's Summer Night theme is "The Zoo at Night Where Even Devils Awaken."
This video showcases the behavior of nocturnal animals as they awaken when it gets dark, highlighting the key points that will make observing animals at night more enjoyable.

① Let's observe Leaf-cutter Ant at night.What do these hardworking Leaf-cutter Ant do at night? This special guided tour will allow you to observe Leaf-cutter Ant with their keepers to see if they even get any sleep.

Each day: ① 7:00 PM ② 7:15 PM ③ 7:30 PM (Each session is approximately 15 minutes long)
Meeting place: 1st floor Insectarium Center (the viewing area is on the 2nd floor)

*Please note that the second floor Insectarium Center will be closed from 5 PM until the event starts at 7 PM on the day the guided tour is conducted.

① A tour to listen to the sounds of insects.This tour involves observing singing insects such as crickets and grasshoppers up close, and then searching for and observing insects that are actually singing within the park.

② Bat Station GuideJoin our staff in observing wild Japanese house Japanese Pipistrelle flying above Lion enclosure. Let's observe these familiar bats and learn about their ecology.

③ Nighttime Mystery Tour of the ParkWe'll take a stroll through the lush, natural grounds with the deputy director and observe nature. You'll have to join us to find out what kind of tour it will be!

(4) A special night talk that will awaken even the devil
It's been a year since Tasmanian Devil found only on the island of Kawakawa, arrived at Tama Zoo.
What kind of animals are these creatures with "devil" in their name? The zookeepers will introduce their lives and what they're like at the zoo using videos and photos.

World Elephant Day was established on August 12, 2012, to raise awareness worldwide about the protection of elephants, which are endangered by poaching and habitat destruction.
Currently, related events are held on August 12th, mainly at zoos in Europe and North America, and organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) are also working to raise awareness of World Elephant Day through public relations activities.

(6) A mobile aquarium is coming!
Marine animals are coming to the zoo.

(7) Interacting with guinea pigs
You can observe guinea pigs up close and even hold them on your lap and interact with them.

(9) Parent-child disaster prevention experience @ Tama Zoo
This is an event where parents and children can carry disaster preparedness notebooks and participate in disaster preparedness training.
You can experience disaster prevention activities such as earthquake simulations using earthquake simulators, fire extinguishing simulations using mobile disaster prevention experience vehicles, and tsunami simulations using disaster prevention experience theaters.
