April 19th is "Animal Care Day," a date chosen because the number 419 sounds like "shiiku" (meaning "animal care"). It was established in 2009 by Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA) with the aim of promoting understanding of the role of zoos and aquariums. Since that year, Tokyo Metropolitan zoos and aquariums have been holding various events related to animal care.

This year, 2016, Tokyo Sea Life Park will once again focus on the work of animal keeper, introducing the appeal and daily challenges of the job from various angles. Please come and visit us. The event will be held on Sunday, April 17th.

1. Special behind-the-scenes guided tour by animal keeper

animal keeper will give you a tour of the animal care facilities, which are usually off-limits to the public. They will introduce the cleaning tools they use, the types of food they feed the animal keeper, and the techniques they employ when feeding them.

The registration will take place at the reception counter in front of the lecture room on the second floor of the main building, starting 10 minutes before the start time.
The check-in times for each tour are as follows:

First session: 10:50 AM - 11:00 AM
Second session: 1:20 PM - 1:30 PM

*If there are many applicants, a lottery will be held after the application deadline. Please note that if you do not come to the meeting place at the time of the lottery, you will not be able to participate in the tour.


There are various ways to feed them.

2. Special animal demonstration for Aquarium Care Day – Fish feeding time

What do the fish in the aquarium eat, and how do they eat it? To commemorate "Aquarium Care Day," animal keeper will give a special guided tour while feeding the fish. The event will take place in the "Tokyo Sea" area, and you can freely watch from the viewing walkway above the tanks. Please feel free to join us!

3. Staff Talk on Aquarium Care Day: "The Life Cycle of a Jellyfish—A Series of Astonishing Changes!"

At Tokyo Sea Life Park, we present "Staff Talk" each month, with a different theme each time. The theme for April is "The Life Cycle of a Jellyfish - A Series of Astonishing Changes!"
How are jellyfish born? What do they look like when they're born? Do they really float around? animal keeper will talk about the life cycle of jellyfish, focusing on the moon jellyfish, the most commonly seen Moon Jellyfish in Japan, using videos and real specimens. Please feel free to join us!
