A physical examination of Xiang Xiang, Giant Panda born on June 12, 2017, was conducted around 8:45 AM on July 15, 2018, when she was 398 days old. Her weight was 30.2 kg, an increase of 0.2 kg from 30.0 kg on July 5. Her body length was not measured.
Due to the rising temperatures, mother Shin Shin and Xiang Xiang are spending both daytime and nighttime hours in indoor rooms 2 and 3.
Xiang Xiang is interested in all sorts of things around her, plays around energetically, and is often seen playfully nuzzling her mother, Shin Shin. She also frequently uses the hammock that was installed in Indoor Room 2 on June 11th, to play and rest.
Xiang Xiang rests for about 13 to 15 hours a day, and spends the rest of the time being active or nursing, but her rhythm is not constant.
Up until now, it was often seen chewing on bamboo, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings that its mother was eating, but now it eats sliced apples almost every day.
Furthermore, since July 14th, its droppings have consisted almost entirely of bamboo leaves, suggesting that it has started eating bamboo leaves. It's also worth noting that the molting process, from deciduous teeth to permanent teeth, is still ongoing.
Shin Shin continues to nurse Xiang Xiang about 4-5 times a day, help with her bowel movements, and take care of her. Shin Shin also eats bamboo, bamboo grass, bamboo shoots, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings.
*As a general rule, Xiang Xiang's physical examinations are conducted on days ending in "5". *Announcements will be made on the website twice a month, on the day following a park closure. We will announce our schedule for August 2018 and beyond at a later date.
