the "Coral Reef Sea" tank at Tokyo Sea Life Park, which will showcase corals and the creatures that live alongside them.

Features of the new facilityIn the warm seas, coral reefs are abundant, and various forms of coral cover the seabed in light-filled waters. Many creatures utilize the coral to make their living.
A coral reef is a landform created over long periods of time by the accumulation of calcareous material produced by stony corals, foraminifera, and calcareous algae. It forms a complex, labyrinthine structure that provides hiding places for various organisms. Furthermore, symbiotic organisms exist within the corals.
zooxanthellae Through photosynthesis, a great deal of nutrients are produced. The mucus secreted by corals and the corals themselves serve as food, supporting the many creatures that live in coral reefs.
The "Coral Reef Sea" tank recreates the lifestyles of such diverse creatures, allowing visitors to observe them.
Representative exhibit animalsThe exhibit features reef-building stony corals such as Acropora humilis and Staghorn Coral, as well as creatures that live in coral reefs, such as damselfish and butterflyfish.
Please note that the creatures previously displayed in the "Voyagers of the Sea Sharks" tank have been moved to other tanks for display.
