A physical examination of Xiang Xiang, Giant Panda born on June 12, 2017, was conducted around 9:00 AM on January 15th, when she was 217 days old. Her weight was 14.9 kg, an increase of 0.3 kg from 14.6 kg on January 5th. Her length was not measured.
Mother "Shin Shin" and Xiang Xiang spend their days in indoor exhibit rooms 2 and 3, as well as outdoor exercise area E1 (a non-public area) and outdoor exercise area A (scheduled to be open to the public from February 1st). At night, they spend their time in indoor exhibit rooms 2 and 3, as well as their sleeping quarters.
Since January 13th, Xiang Xiang has been going out to outdoor exercise area A every day, where she can be seen moving around a wide area and climbing trees.
Xiang Xiang's daily routine mainly consists of being awake for 1-3 hours and sleeping for 3-4 hours, but sometimes she may be awake for as long as 4.5 hours or sleep for as long as 7 hours. On January 13th, Xiang Xiang was clearly seen licking water from a water bowl. She is also often seen nibbling on bamboo, apples, and carrots that her mother is eating, but it has not yet been confirmed that she is foraging for them herself.
Shin Shin takes care of Xiang Xiang by licking her body, nursing her about twice a day, and helping her with her bowel movements. Shin Shin also frequently eats bamboo, bamboo grass, apples, carrots, and panda dumplings.
